Holy Crap it's Robert Swift!!!!!
I must preface this post with some more personal information. My life is priorities in this order: God, Family and Basketball. My wife likes to say basketball leapfrogs the others. So my oldest daughter (K) is at the June Daugherty basketball camp this week. Today was the first day and I switched shifts with Pop Tart at work so I could attend also. My oldest daughter is already 5-7 and doesn't turn 12 until August. She enjoys basketball and is getting the hang of it. Her brother has the superior jump shot but doesn't have the "court sense" she has. One of my first memories growing up was the Seattle Supersonics winning the title in 1979 and how large and scary looking Wes Unseld was. Anyway...... June talked to all the parents, which was a good to see her enthusiastic approach to leading these girls. If K's good enough for Division I when the time comes June's program at the UW gets my vote. As a basketball junkie it was a grade A stuff. Kayla Burt was working with the girls and I saw Eldrige Recasner and Mike Jensen. I was going to ask Jensen what not to do in the Sweet 16 when you are up by 5 against UConn but he is 6-8 and I'm not. K was there from 9am to 5pm and was loving it. I was waiting for the girls to get dismissed and up the stairs comes the 7 foot redhead Robert Swift. He walks up to the concourse and meets up with Jon Brockman. The do the whole manly half hand shake half hug thing. He has let his hair grow since the end of the season and has more tattoos. Someone should tell him that those are permanent and that pale redheads that don't tan should be careful of the amount of body art they have. He was getting ready to use the gym to workout. I would of stayed to watch but had to make my way back to Everett. This was a great day. I could spend all day in a gym just watching basketball. No matter what grade, talent or gender I could just watch and watch.
Speaking of basketball, the NBA draft is less than a day away. Trade rumors are flying around. My Supersonics are in the rumor mill. Rashard Lewis for Shawn Marion is the big one. I believe it to be nothing but I could be wrong. It sounds a lot like 1993 when we gave up our outside shooting in Eddie Johnson and Dana Barros for Kendall Gill. That didn't turn out real good. We get into the playoffs and couldn't spread the floor against Dikemebe and the Nuggets and became a trivia question. When I am working with my kids and their jumpshot I use Shawn Marion's poor form as an example of what not to do. He can rebound and dive to the hoop but I wouldn't draw up a play to get him a three to tie a game. He shot 33% from three this year which isn't bad but in the Suns system most of his threes were wide open. Time to get things in order for tomorrow. Not like anyone is reading this yet or cares what I am doing but that could change.
